“Fun loving blonde looking for love, long walks in the park, cuddles and...some chew toys.”

by Karryn Cartelle
Behind the cheery facade of many of Tokyo’s pet shops lies a dark secret, one that nobody wants to think about when watching the boisterous puppies inside their display cases. Few customers consider how the animals made their way to the store, or the fate that awaits them when the shop needs to “refresh its stock.

Familiar to cat enthusiasts, the Monthly Neko Shinbun (Cat Newspaper) introduces the 2007 ARK Calendar in its November issue.
Having supplied the 2006 and 2007 ARK Calendars’ images of adorable dogs and cats, photographer Mumu Matsumura, in her own column, introduces ARK and its volunteers.
We would like to sincerely express our thanks to Ms. Matsumura, who never fails to generously support ARK's activities.
Also, we would like to thank the Neko Shinbun for their support in having this article appear.

| Our priority now is on housing the remaining 16 dogs from the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, many of whom have owners, but who are unable to take them back. The area (land) where the Earthquake dogs are now housed, has been rented for many years but now due to changing circumstances of the owners, is due to be returned to them. That means there is some urgency in building new kennels for them in Sasayama. Your continuing support is appreciated. | |||
